One more Deer!
Joel really wanted to get one more deer under his belt before the season ended this Sat. So I suggested he go out yesterday. Around noon he finally decided he'd give it one more try and drove to Amherst (oops I've been spelling that wrong). He posted himself a little closer to where I saw the group of 4 and there she was feeding in front of the barn. He shot her once and she jumped straight off and into the woods she went. Not too far Joel found her laying down and thought he'd gotten her only to find she was playing possum. He stood right beside her trying to decide if she was really gone & in a split second she bolted up and took off. He had to track her further into the woods and finally got her. The bad part to all that was yes he had to get her all the way back to the truck which was a pretty good haul.
Joel got home around 8:30 and quite exhausted but a very happy husband! I'm pretty excited about his successful year of hunting and cant wait until next year. A big thanks to Grandma Nesbit for letting Joel hunt on her property! We've really enjoyed the area.

2nd & 3rd Christmas!
These are the last of a great Christmas in 2009. Joel and I celebrated our second Christmas at my parents house.

Mom and Dad had sooo much food and once we got there we started baking pies. Mom and Dad worked on Eggnog Cheesecake, Pecan Pie (my favorite) and Lemon Pie.

Joel and I made a favorite that my parents and I havent been able to master yet which is Shoofly Pie. When I was in high school my parents and I had made a trip to Penn. and had the real thing which was to die for and ever since cant seem to find the same recipe. On our way back from Joel's parents house from Christmas this year he took me to a country market in Staunton and there was a box mix of this pie so I bought it for us to try.
It turned out good but still not exactly like the real thing. I guess you just cant beat the real thing!

Christmas Day my brother and his family came over. We had a great time opening gifts, stuffing ourselves full of delicious food and conversation.

Joel and I headed home on Monday & decided to stop in Amhurst so that Joel could go hunting and I would hang out at some of the nearby stores in Lynchburg. I think I was all shopped out cause I found myself back at the property a little before 5:00pm. I wasnt supposed to meet Joel until 5:45 so thankfully I had a book and just sat in the Tahoe and read. A few min. after 5:00 I looked off near the woods only to see 2 deer feeding within a few feet of my. I couldnt beleive it! Then a few more came over. At this point I'm wishing that I had a hunting license cause I had a pretty good pick and a great shot of all of them. Man all I had to do was roll down my window ok that may not be legal. I'll have to look that one up. I sent Joel several text to let them know exactly where they were hoping he could quietly get over to me without scaring them off but unfortunatly it didnt work. He ended up scaring them off and we went home empty handed. :(

This bird is my life long friend that I used to call Big Bird when I was little. I still catch myself doing that instead of calling him his actual name. This was taken at the pond in my parents back yard. He makes daily visits and boy we got a huge treat when he flew right up to us in the yard extremely close to the porch. He's never been in their yard. No I didnt get a picture cause we all stood in the porch staring at him and how big he was.
I thought these little guys were so cute and very unique. My favorite is the one that looks like he has a mullet.

Ok for those of you who know my family the 2 boys in the middle yes they are my little nephews. oh hard to believe Brian is 23 and Brennan is 15 and has his drivers permit ahhhh.

We went to Colonial on Sunday and were able to see a lot of friends that we havent seen in a while. That afternoon everyone just crashed and then played some card games until we were all too tired to see.

On our way home it started to snow. At home we got to open our gifts to each other which made Christmas #3. What a great Christmas.

Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas!!!! Joel and I wish you all a wonderful Christmas.
Well this concludes our pictures from a Powhatan Christmas. We were able to have fun with the Clark, Patsy, Scott and Erin and kids Friday night before the dumping of snow. Sat. we got to go sledding, have lunch with Grandmother Sloan and make snow flakes with Grandma Nesbit that night. Sunday church services were cancelled so we had church at the house, took naps and went for a nice walk in the snow and headed home Monday morning to find a yard full of snow. I can hardly wait for our next snow, this time we will be more prepared and yes I will have a sled handy at our house :)

nothin but snow!
Well this is one of the largest post I've done so far! There were so many pictures I just had to share them all. Sunday we went for a walk in the woods just to see the beautiful snow, get some exercise after all those delicious chocolate covered pretzels and to get out and find some deer tracks which were in plenty.

I got Joel and man I didnt even think about standing at the bottom of the hill to get good pictures. We all stood at the top waiting our turns :)

Joel and princess on a search of deer tracks.
ok I totally went back to my childhood this Christmas! I remember getting a lot of snow in Suffolk when I was little and I played in the snow until I was called to go inside. Sledding was sooo much fun and yes I had a ton of fun on this hill in Powhatan. Sat. I could hardly wait to get out in the snow and have some fun and boy did we all.

I think princess had just as much fun

Here Joels dad even got a turn.
On the way home we went through Staunton to go to a market we'd heard so much about and the drive was really pretty. Poor cows looked a little bored going up and down the same track.

Christmas in Powhatan!
Joel and I left for Amhurst Thursday afternoon. Joel went hunting for a little while & I went out shopping. From there we made it into Powhatan that night. Friday Joel, princess and I went for a walk in the woods.
Once we made it to the river princess dove in. It was really cold but it didnt seem to bother her too much. She made me cold just looking at her tromping around!

That evening Grandma Nesbit was having burritos for dinner and Clark,Patsy, Scott and Erin & their kids came over for dinner. About an hour or less before they arrived it started to snow. I dont know how I missed the snow announcement cause I would have come more prepared but we made it work. The snow coming down that night was beautiful. After dinner everyone decided they'd better head home before it got too bad & it's a good thing they did. The snow just came pouring down & we were loving every minute of it.

Flash is the new little SuperCutieKitty. He loves to climb and get close to your head. He has the loudest pur for a kitten we've heard, it's so adorable. Flash has a nice heated home on the porch which ended up with snow inside. With all the snow we got it ended up coming through the screen and covered the floor.

Tis the season!
Christmas is almost upon us!!! I'm sure everyone is into the Christmas spirit by now. This week has been such a busy week with preparing for the Christmas program, apoitnments going to friends houses & most important finishing up wrapping those gifts.
We have our Christmas program practice on Sat. morning and our actual program Sunday night. We are asked to bring cookies so I got into the Cookie spirit yesterday and today & thought I'll just make lots of cookies so that we can take them to different places.
So today I have about 5 things going at one time and I looked at my Christmas rug & decided to wash it since I was doing laundry. It's super windy outside so once it was done washing I thought " hey it will dry super fast with the wind blowing like it is". I failed to consider how cold it is outside and that yes it might FREEZE!
I went to check on it and found that it had molded to my drying rack & was frozen solid. uh man- my poor dryer is going to get a workout today.
