skiing weekend

They called for snow and we got it! The snow was absolutley beautiful and fluffy. Saturday morning we decided that we'd get ahead of the curve and shovel the snow off the driveway so that we'd have the majority of our work done. We shoveled half the driveway and stopped for some cereal and when we came back there was another 2inches on what we'd just shoveled. Yep we even forgot the salt so that did us no good really but it was a good workout!
So I got a great idea that we should go skiing. Do you recognize this spot???

We're skiing in our backyard. We have the perfect hill for it, so I suggested to Joel let's have some fun and go skiing. We had a great time. The fresh fluffy snow was great for skiing & only gave us a huge desire to go hit the slopes somewhere.

Joel picked up a lot of speed and ended up skiing in between the houses and ended up on the street. The snow was so fluffy you really couldnt tell when you dropped off onto the street. Our neighbors are party poopers and dont come out in the snow, so we didnt have to worry about running into anyone just the little tree in our yard. I am suprised that the kids dont come out and play in this. I remember when I was little I had to bed to stay out longer cause I loved the snow so much.

Needless to say we're planning a ski trip. We can only take so much snow and not go skiing.

Test Embankment

Joel passed his qualifying exam so now that it's over the test site is the main focus.
Thursday I had the opportunity to go hang out with Joel for a while at the farm on Tech property and see Joel's site that he's working on. He failed to give me a heads up on the "smell" ok yes I have been on a farm but honestly I wasn't prepared for the smell that hit me as soon as I opened the door!!! OH how horrible. He said it was from the cow feed that they had stashed nearby and I guess wet soil and cow feed mixed together makes a smell that makes me think of spoiled olives but worse!!
I had to do a lot of walking around to find a spot that wasn't down wind.
So here he is working on a few areas before his day ended.

Now the bobcat was what caught my attention. Joel has been telling me how much work he gets to do with the bobcat and how much fun it is to move dirt etc.

YEP I got to drive the bobcat. Joel drove his truck and I was able to drive the bobcat back to the farmhouse so that we could put it back in the shed. I had a ton of fun. It's a whole lot easier to drive than I thought and it has some gittyup to it too. We had a pretty good clip to drive so I was able to get the full experience. I told Joel I think we need to get a bobcat. Hey with all this snow I could plow our cul-de-sac! ok so that didn't go over so well but you can't say I didn't try :) Maybe I'll volunteer at the local farms.

This is the farmhouse. I honestly dont know the story of it but plan to ask some of our friends who work right there on the farm. It's really pretty and on a great piece of land.

Tea

It has been tradition now to hold a tea after our Bible study. This week was supposed to be at my house since our Pastor & his wife just got a new house. Out comes the China, tea cups, pretty napkins and different types of tea. I wanted to make something different since it seems like I'm always making cookies or something chocolate. I chose Cranberry Parfaits. These were extremely easy to do and turned out very yummy. This was definitly a recipe that goes in the my favorites section!
This little guy is Joels. You always have to have a test run!
You do have to watch what you're doing if you are using a glass. I learned the hard way after I took these pictures I noticed little spots of whipped cream so I wiped out the top of the glasses and it only smeared, so be careful.

Basketball league

Joel and I have joined our church to play in a basketball league with other churches. We have had a ton of fun and as of last night we are undefeated!!!

Last night was a repeat of the first team we played and man were they out to get us. They were really rough and of course the refs were completely blind. I ended up getting nailed and hurt my wrist. No one really saw what happened, it was kind of funny except for the pain part.
Playing on the team brings back great memories of playing in jr. high and high school. Those were the good days!
Our last game ends the 2nd week in Feb. we're really hoping to go all the way!

First cake of the new year!

I have an order for this weekend for a dual baby shower (boy & girl). The ladies decided on this carriage cake and I think it was a great choice. I'm so excited about this cake. It's a yellow with raspberry filling cake. hmmm.

Go figure that the biggest size box that I could find is too tight. :( oh go figure!

I'm really excited about working at home on cake orders. This is strictly by word of mouth so I'm hoping to pick up a few cakes a month. I enjoy creating delicious/ fun cakes. I thoroughly enjoyed doing this one.

Cake Boss!

While I was in Suffolk my parents and I went to one of my favorite cake supply stores in Norfolk and there it was an invite to a day with Buddy (Cake Boss).

If anyone is interrested it's March 20th at the Wyndham Resort at the Va Beach Oceanfront, lunch is included, demo's and signings.register before March 1 and it's $295 the price people pay to have some fun!

This sounds like it's going to be a blast!

Quite a week!

Our week started off with me heading to Suffolk on Monday and Joel starting his exam Tuesday morning. Tuesday I had the opportunity to meet several of the teachers that I worked with 2 years ago. We met a Abuelos and had a really great time in food and conversation. This is a picture of one of my students and her mom. They were a team that every teacher wanted in their class.
Wednesday mom, dad and I went to Williamsburg. The weather was perfect. We hit the outlets first and enjoyed some great shopping and then went to downtown and took some of these pictures.

This little guy was a miniature husky. Oh wow he was even prettier in person. I didn't even know they had minis. This is the dog that I've always wanted.

I love sheep. If you look close this guy scratching looks like he's smiling.
It feels so good.

These sheep really need a hair cut! One of them you couldn't see any of his face but he turned around before I could get him.

Dad and I couldn't figure out what kind of tree this was but it was really cool. These were the only two that we saw.
On our way home from Williamsburg we picked up some BQ and took it to my brothers house to have dinner with them. This is their cutie Izzy. What a ham. She's a ton of fun.

Thursday we hung out around the Greenbrier area and did some shopping, went to Heidi's house for some beautiful jewelry shopping. Lily Noelle If you haven't seen it you must look it up! Mom & I both got some beautiful pieces. We ended our day with dinner and a movie. We saw Bolt for the second time & enjoyed it just as much. Joel ended up working through the night that night and only slept for an hour. He turned his Exam in Friday morning and was soo relieved. What a week! I'm glad his exam is over, that was pretty intense.
