Mom and Dad had sooo much food and once we got there we started baking pies. Mom and Dad worked on Eggnog Cheesecake, Pecan Pie (my favorite) and Lemon Pie.

Joel and I made a favorite that my parents and I havent been able to master yet which is Shoofly Pie. When I was in high school my parents and I had made a trip to Penn. and had the real thing which was to die for and ever since cant seem to find the same recipe. On our way back from Joel's parents house from Christmas this year he took me to a country market in Staunton and there was a box mix of this pie so I bought it for us to try.
It turned out good but still not exactly like the real thing. I guess you just cant beat the real thing!

Christmas Day my brother and his family came over. We had a great time opening gifts, stuffing ourselves full of delicious food and conversation.

Joel and I headed home on Monday & decided to stop in Amhurst so that Joel could go hunting and I would hang out at some of the nearby stores in Lynchburg. I think I was all shopped out cause I found myself back at the property a little before 5:00pm. I wasnt supposed to meet Joel until 5:45 so thankfully I had a book and just sat in the Tahoe and read. A few min. after 5:00 I looked off near the woods only to see 2 deer feeding within a few feet of my. I couldnt beleive it! Then a few more came over. At this point I'm wishing that I had a hunting license cause I had a pretty good pick and a great shot of all of them. Man all I had to do was roll down my window ok that may not be legal. I'll have to look that one up. I sent Joel several text to let them know exactly where they were hoping he could quietly get over to me without scaring them off but unfortunatly it didnt work. He ended up scaring them off and we went home empty handed. :(

This bird is my life long friend that I used to call Big Bird when I was little. I still catch myself doing that instead of calling him his actual name. This was taken at the pond in my parents back yard. He makes daily visits and boy we got a huge treat when he flew right up to us in the yard extremely close to the porch. He's never been in their yard. No I didnt get a picture cause we all stood in the porch staring at him and how big he was.
I thought these little guys were so cute and very unique. My favorite is the one that looks like he has a mullet.

We went to Colonial on Sunday and were able to see a lot of friends that we havent seen in a while. That afternoon everyone just crashed and then played some card games until we were all too tired to see.

On our way home it started to snow. At home we got to open our gifts to each other which made Christmas #3. What a great Christmas.

It did my heart good to see your parents, their house, Brian (!!!!!), your parent's yard... What fond memories came flooding back over me! Remember, "Fuzzy Wuzzy Was a Bear"? hahaha That's what I think of every time I think of your folk's backyard & the water back there... :-) So glad you had such a wonderful Christmas celebration (& that you had so many wonderful Christmas celebrations!). Love you, friend! p.s. I have a couple of recipes for ShooFly Pie that I've been wanting to try (I've been craving it, too!). I'll let you know how they turn out. Are you looking for one with a regular bottom or with a wet bottom?
